Mary Faith Battaglia (January 9, 1992 – May 2, 2001) and Liberty Mae Battaglia (January 17, 1995 – May 2, 2001) were two young girls who were brutally shot to death by their father, John David Battaglia, as an act of revenge on their mother, Mary Jeane Pearle. Faith was shot 3 times, and Liberty was shot 5 times.

On May 2, 2001, John left both girls with him for a planned dinner while Mary was away, only to take him into his apartment room in the Adam Hats Lofts in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas. That was when John engaged in a phone call with Mary. He asked Faith to ask Mary, "Why do you want Daddy to go to jail?" At that moment, John held up firearms at both girls as Faith cried, "No, Daddy, please don't, don't do it!" But it was too late. John had already shot his beautiful daughters to death. That was when John told Mary, "Merry Fucking Christmas," as a reference to when he assaulted her in Christmas 1999, and hung up the phone. Shortly after Faith and Liberty died, John left a voicemail on the answering machine in the girls' bedroom, which said, "Hi, girls. I just wanted to tell you how very very brave you were, and I hope you are resting in a better place now. I wish that you had nothing to do with your mother. She's evil and vicious and stupid!" John would later go to prison for killing Faith and Liberty, where he would be executed by lethal injection on February 1, 2018. Both girls rest at Hillcrest Cemetery, where both share a grave with Mary's father.
